Scots outlast Nubians in overtime to gain control of the City League south
COLUMBUS, Ohio - - The game that was supposed to happen almost two weeks ago happened Wednesday night, as the eyes of the Columbus City League were upon 4841 Livingston Avenue for the game that more than likely decides who will represent the south division in the City League championship game.
After another breathtaking ball game, the Walnut Ridge Scots (12-7; 11-1) outlasted Africentric (14-3; 11-1) to seize control of the City League south and have the clear path to their first City League championship game since 2020.
Walnut Ridge was ready for the “four minute wars,” a drill they do at practice daily, once the overtime period began. “The purpose is those overtime situations, four minutes of grit ball, no fouls, playing through it, being tough,” Scots head coach Chuck Jefferson said about the drill paying off in the Wednesday night win.
“When they looked at the clock, with players and with youth sometimes they got to see it, so, they were able to understand what that meant and I was really glad how we responded in those four minutes.”
