Tuesday gave us a handful of intriguing league and non-league games. Here are some of the top games in Central Ohio.
#1 (D2) Westerville North 80, #7 (D2) Westerville South 51
Westerville North maintained its dominance over rival Westerville South in a 29-point drubbing on the road Tuesday. With the win, Westerville North has now won 27-straight games, including 12 in a row of 19 points or more. The Warriors have played at a level of dominance over the last calendar year (it’s been 374 days since their last defeat) that has not been seen at any point over our 12+ years covering local basketball. This is a special program that the average fan should appreciate. The Warriors will be greatly challenged with three games in three days this weekend, starting with 4-0 Westland on Friday, the Linsly School (West Virginia) on Saturday (the last team to not lose by 20 points to North - they lost by 19) and back-to-back-to-back defending state champion juggernaut Lutheran East on Sunday. We’ll find out just how ready this team is to defend its state title after that brutal stretch.
#6 (D5) Harvest Prep 67, #4 (D1) Dublin Coffman 62
Harvest Prep delivered the best win that any team in Division V will be able to get this season when they went on the road and knocked off unbeaten Dublin Coffman. Coffman came into the game coming off an emotional win at Olentangy Orange the night before and suffered a massive let down against a Warriors team that was 0-2 with losses to Miami Trace and Fredericktown. Coffman was without arguably its best player and matchup nightmare in 6-foot-8 junior Thomas Cochran, however, it’s still a shocking upset despite that. This win for Harvest Prep puts them right back in the conversation among the elite teams in D5, while Dublin Coffman will be looking to bounce back in a major way after suffering the biggest upset we’ve seen yet this season.
