Westland won on a game-winning three from Antwon Pollard with 2.2 seconds left at Springfield on Wednesday, marking the first time in 13 years that the Cougars have won double digit games in a season. In fact, Westland’s 7-16 season last year was their best season since that 2012-13 campaign when the Cougars won 18 games and advanced to the district semifinals. This Cougars program is on a resurgent pace and looks poised and ready to continue setting a new standard for Westland basketball. This year’s 10 wins is tied for the second-best season in the last 20 years, joining the 2011-12 team which also won 10 games.
Olentangy

If it weren’t for Westland’s breakout season, Olentangy would 100 percent be the most talked about team in the area when it comes to resurgent seasons. The Braves are on a heater this year, unbeaten in games against Ohio squads and seated atop the OCC-Cardinal. Olentangy is on a current six-game winning streak, including a buzzer beating layup to take down Olentangy Berlin last Friday. With a 5-0 record in league play, the Braves are in a great position to win the OCC and earn a top seed in the upcoming district tournament.
