STATE CHAMPS: Westerville North defeats Massillon Perry

DAYTON, OH - For the first time since 1994, state championship nets will come home to County Line Road.

And similar to what they accomplished all postseason, Westerville North dominated their opposition in the Division II title game at UD Arena on Friday, as they defeated Massillon Perry 78-46 in a game the Warriors were in control from the opening tip.

The first two minutes indicated how the the remaining 30 would be played, as the Warriors came out with a 10-0 start and forced the Panthers to call a timeout. They’d end the first quarter with a 15 point lead that grew to 19 at half. A 16-0 run in the middle of the third quarter pushed them into comfortable territory as the Warriors held a 30+ point lead for most of the fourth.

“Yes, the start was expected,” Westerville North head coach Shan Trusley said after the game in regard to the early advantage the Warriors initiated. “You’ve never seen a group of kids work as hard as this group does. Our saying all year long is ‘deep water.’ Our goal every game is to take the other team to deep water. That’s how we break our huddles, take the other team to deep water. Our goal is to gas you.”

Westerville North celebrates the final moments of their state championship win.
