Prospect Profile: Kruz McClure
The district player of the year from Westerville South has an offer list that's only growing. He chats about recruitment, playing for Ed Calo and how he persevered through a medical incident
COLUMBUS, OH - After an accomplished junior season, Kruz McClure’s home became a bit more decorated. First came the OCC-Capital Player of the Year, an award he beat out amongst notable standouts from regional champion Delaware Hayes (who suffered their only regular season loss at the hands of McClure going nuclear for 41 points).
What followed was being named All-Central District Player of the Year, soon accompanied by a finalist nomination for Mr. Ohio. The recognition shouldn’t come as much of a surprise when you consider McClure averaged 24.3 points, the highest scorer in the district for Division I, along with 5 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 2.6 steals per game.
The 6-foot-5 floor general really can do it all and college programs have taken serious notice. McClure holds six offers, but by the time you’re reading this, that list most likely has grown after he was considered a standout performer at the 3SSB Session Series which kicked off the live period season.
270 Hoops caught up with McClure who discussed his recruitment, Westerville South and how his banner junior year was in spite of significant adversity.
270 Hoops: I understand you just got back from a long road trip from Bryan, Texas, as you played for MR22 Elite at the 3SSB event. What was harder, the four games or the drive home?
Kruz McClure: Oh, the drive. It was 17 hours, without stopping, with four coaches and two other players.
This was the first weekend of the “live period.” What are you hoping to accomplish over the next few months, recruitment wise?
I want the right school to stand out and find that perfect college right now. Seeing the culture is a big thing for me, seeing how the players interact with each other. I want to go somewhere as a freshman where I can come in and make an impact. That’s what I’m really looking for the most.
You have six offers so far. Have any of those schools begun to stand out? Are there some additional schools you’ve had serious discussions with that could turn into an offer in the near future?
