Prospect Profile: Josh Henderson
The Westerville Central guard is the definition of a stock riser. The upcoming senior discussed receiving his first offer, recruitment and the new-look Warhawks
COLUMBUS, OH - On the surface, it may have appeared Josh Henderson has flown under the radar. After all, he was a part of a Westerville Central team that reached a district final and graduated three seniors who will play at the college level.
But dig a little deeper and the 6-foot-5 guard’s ascension shouldn’t be much of a surprise. After all, he was second in team scoring (14.1 points per game, less than half a point from first), shot 52% from the field, hit the 40% mark beyond the arc and was named second team All OCC-Ohio.
Henderson has now carried that efficiency into a breakout spring and summer, with standout performances for All-Ohio Select and Phenom United on the AAU circuit and at various team camps with Westerville Central.
College coaches have rightfully taken notice of Henderson, who is just as skilled as he is athletic, showcasing the capability to score at all levels along with the ability to soar much above the rim.
Headed into the much anticipated Midwest Live weekend, Henderson chatted with 270 Hoops about receiving his first Division I offer, sorting through the recruitment process and his excitement to lead a new-look Warhawks team.
270 Hoops: It seems like you have really started to pop out, from your impressive junior year through AAU and team camp season. What would you say has led to the growth of your game and exposure?
Josh Henderson: I think it’s being constantly in the gym, even when I don’t want to be there, just pushing myself, lifting. My whole high school coaching staff has helped me hit that next gear, also mentally, and get me to that next level. They’ve all been there in my corner pushing me, knowing what I can do and what I can be and helping me get there.
Last week, you picked up your first Division I offer from Stetson. How did that go down?
They reached out to me and invited me to a call with the head coach and assistant coach. They gave me a run down of what Stetson is, who they are as a program, players they have coached. They said they loved my game and what I do and extended me an offer.
I did not think I was getting an offer at first. That was my first time talking with a head coach.
What were your emotions and reactions when you got that call?
