Pickerington Central 51 , Wayne Memorial (MI) 33 - Prospect Scouting Report
Tigers use a 18-5 second quarter to propel them to victory
COLUMBUS, Ohio - - In the penultimate game of the Nubian Classic, Pickerington Central used an 18-5 second quarter outburst to earn a 51-33 statement victory over Wayne Memorial (MI.). The lady Zebras lost starting guard Colleena Bryant midway through the second quarter to a knee injury and she did not return the rest of the game.
The Lady Zebras came out playing fast and making plays for each other, Bryant scored six quick points in the opening frame as her team tried to get out and run as much as they could. Pickerington Central battled back, but still could not take the lead over Wayne Memorial. The Zebras took a 13-10 lead into the second quarter.
McDonalds All-American and Illinois commit Berry Wallace showed why she is such a highly-touted recruit in the second quarter, taking over the game in every aspect on the court. She scored six points, grabbed three boards and had an assist to her sister, Blossom Wallace, in the midst of the quarter. Her and sophomore guard Ameera Jenkins held it down for the Tigers on the scoreboard while freshman Zoe Coleman brought her defense A-game to the quarter. Pickerington Central allowed five points all quarter and went into the locker room with a 28-18 lead.
The roll continued for the Tigers in the third, getting good shots on offense while still being stingy defensively. Pickerington Central’s depth really caused problems for the Zebras. There were times the Tigers went 10 deep where Wayne Memorial relied heavily on starters and routinely went 7 deep. Heading into the final quarter, the Tigers were leading 39-27.
Pickerington Central just kept rolling in the final, despite the Zebras never losing fight. Junior point guard Rylee Bess took over the final quarter and scored all seven of her points in the frame.
The 51-33 win give Pickerington Central their ninth win in 10 games. The Tigers welcome in Groveport Madison next Friday.
Below is an analysis of the performance from the McDonalds All-American, the Tiger freshman that did not play like one and the guard from Wayne Memorial that stepped up all night.
