Northland had control early, but it didn’t feel like it.

Four first-quarter turnovers stalled the Vikings’ offense and drained the energy from a packed gym, even as Northland took a 14-8 lead over rival Beechcroft.

The once-lively crowd grew restless as the buzzer sounded.

Five minutes later, the silence had been swallowed by roar.

Northland (11-6, 9-2 City League) ripped off an 11-0 run in the second quarter and rode 23 points from Owan Mburugu to overpower Beechcroft (6-11, 5-6 City League) 65-44 Tuesday night at Northland High School.
