Delaware Hayes 56, Marysville 48 - Prospect Scouting Report
In a battle of unbeatens, Delaware Hayes was too much for Marysville in the fourth quarter
It’s hard to go undefeated in the regular season. It hasn’t happened for any Division I team in Central Ohio since Northland in 2012-13, however, the Vikings were knocked off in the state semifinals after winning their first 28 games. For teams in Central Ohio, going just five games without a loss is a major challenge this season and that was the case on Tuesday night.
No. 3 Delaware Hayes, sitting at 3-0, made the trip down to No. 15 Marysville to take on a 2-0 Monarchs team in an interesting non-league matchup. Despite missing two starters due to injury, Delaware Hayes never really lost control of the game and held Marysville scoreless for the final 2:48 to pull away for a 56-48 win.
Marysville played the first quarter very close, but a few costly turnovers and Delaware Hayes’ success on the offensive glass allowed the Pacers to open up a 33-24 lead at halftime. Marysville senior Jason Moore was a superstar on both ends of the floor but ran out of gas down the stretch, as the Monarchs could not overcome a Delaware Hayes team that will not easily be defeated this season.
The win for Delaware Hayes was a big one, as the Pacers were clearly not caught looking ahead to Friday’s mega matchup against No. 2 Westerville North. While the Pacers were without junior big man Landon Vanderwarker and sophomore Jeremiah Russell, it did not impact their efficiency, as they put together a stellar all-around showing to come away with a big win.
Here are a few prospects that caught our eye on Tuesday.
Jason Moore (6’7 power forward / Marysville / 2024): We don’t often start these type of articles off with a player from the losing team, however, Moore played THAT well on Tuesday that he deserves first mention. The Ashland commit had a stellar game on both ends of the floor to power the Monarchs. Moore was an elite finisher, both as a driver and as a roll man. The 6-foot-7 senior does a terrific job in the screen and roll game, as his timing and anticipation on his rolls are impeccable. He knows how to seal off defenders, he has great hands and can absorb and finish through contact. Moore knocked down a wing three as well and showed the ability to handle the ball in transition. When he wasn’t scoring, Moore was playing stellar defense on Ohio commit Jesse Burris, making it very difficult for Burris to find success in one-on-one matchups. Moore also set great screens for junior guard CJ Collins, allowing Collins to get loose and convert with threes and floaters. Marysville has one of Central Ohio’s elite players in Moore. While he may not get the type of fanfare that other players in the area get, Moore is as good as any player we’ve watched this season. Ashland once again strikes gold recruiting in Central Ohio.
