Licking Heights Stuns Westerville Central in Overtime
Amadou Ceesay's corner three at the buzzer provides a huge win for the Hornets
PATASKALA, OH - The calendar may have just turned to December, but on Monday night at Licking Heights High School, it felt like March. An exclamation point was put on the madness when Heights senior Amadou Ceesay hit a three pointer at the buzzer to give the Hornets a 68-65 win over Westerville Central in overtime.
In a game that was competitive from start to finish, the Hornets had a three point advantage at halftime, but would not lead again for the remainder of regulation though would consistently stay within striking distance. With under ten seconds left in regulation, Hornets junior Kha’z Simon finished his second late put back to tie the game at 58 a piece, the final made field goal attempt before the bonus period.
Westerville Central senior Josh Henderson sparked the Warhawks with five straight points to start overtime until Hornets senior Kaleb Russ connected on his fourth triple of the evening and senior guard Bryce Cahill went one-of-two from the charity stripe to bring the Hornets within one.
Before his magic moment, Ceesay delivered the Hornets second biggest shot of the evening on a mid-range jumper that was well defended by Henderson to give Heights a two-point advantage with 27.5 seconds left.
