League races update following a wild Friday of games
We take a dive into league races across Central Ohio following a wild night of basketball
The high school basketball season is heating up. With teams getting rematches against division rivals in all conferences in the area, there is no shortage of intensity and emotion at this point in the season. Let’s take a look at where league races stand across the area.
OCC-Buckeye
Leaders: Newark (7-1) and Reynoldsburg (7-1)
Remaining Newark games: 2/9 vs. Groveport Madison, 2/16 at Lancaster
Remaining Reynoldsburg games: 2/9 at Central Crossing, 2/16 vs. Pickerington Central
Both leaders took care of business in matchups against teams in the bottom of the rankings. Newark is likely to finish the league slate at 9-1, while Reynoldsburg will have a tough test against rival Pickerington Central to end the season. The Tigers took Reynoldsburg to the brink, holding a 7-point lead with under a minute to go in a game they lost in overtime. A 9-1 league finish would give Reynoldsburg their first OCC title since 2013.
OCC-Capital
Leader: Delaware Hayes (10-1)
In the hunt: Westerville North (9-2)
Remaining Delaware Hayes games: 2/6 at Dublin Scioto, 2/9 at Canal Winchester, 2/16 vs. Franklin Heights
Delaware Hayes is on a fast track to an outright OCC title. The remaining three games are against teams that are a combined 7-26 in league games this season. Even if Delaware Hayes were somehow upset in one of those three games, they would still hold the tie breaker over Westerville North due to sweeping the Warriors in both matchups this season.
