Jaden and Jakhi Calloway: A Winning Combination
The brothers discuss hooping together, season ending heartbreak and hopes for next year
COLUMBUS, Ohio - - The 2023-2024 season was the best season for the Bishop Hartley Hawks since 2019, winning the district and falling to state final four representative Maysville on a miraculous buzzer-beating three-point shot in the regional semi-finals. They were led by standout junior guard Jaden Calloway, who led the team in scoring at 14.2 points per game en route to a 23-4 record to end the season. His younger brother, sophomore starting point guard Jakhi Calloway ran along him as a team leader and one the best on-ball defenders in the state and being the team’s second-leading scorer at 13.7 points per game.
Jaden Calloway was a Division 2 first team All-District selection and third team All-State as well, making this his breakout season as a junior on one of the best teams in Central Ohio. The younger Calloway was a third team All-District pick, giving the Hawks a player on each of the three teams, adding in second team junior big Pharez Nicholas.
“I feel like it was about my confidence and my mindset,” Jaden said. “I feel like my sophomore year was probably my breakout year, but really wasn’t forreal, so my junior year was a bounce back to show what I was all about.
“I had to really come out and show what I was about because first year I missed a couple games because I got hurt during the Northland game,” Jakhi said, speaking on his sophomore season. “I just felt like I had to show what I was really about and come out there score more and average more points for my team.”
