Groveport Madison 61, West 53 - Prospect Scouting Report
Groveport's guard duo of Tyreke Ruffin and Kamar Keys led the Cruisers to a quality road win
Groveport Madison is a team that will fly under the radar this year in a very difficult OCC-Buckeye league that contains perennial powers Pickerington Central, Newark and Reynoldsburg. Without a single senior in their starting lineup, the Cruisers have a lot to look forward to. They showed flashes of the team they could be in the future in a 61-53 road win at Columbus West on Wednesday.
Here are a look at some standout prospects from the game.
Tyreke Ruffin (6’0 point guard / Groveport Madison / 2026)
Earning first-team All-OCC honors as a freshman last year, Ruffin made a quick impact on the varsity level. It’s not hard to see why. The sophomore guard plays with great pace and maturity, as the game is not too fast for him and he doesn’t fall for the emotional theatrics that many young high school guards can fall for. He just goes out and plays the game of basketball. We love the playmaker that Ruffin is, as he makes plays for others and always makes the correct play. Ruffin is a great passer, can get into the lane whenever he wants as a ball handler and is a tenacious defender that is the linchpin of the Cruisers team. Ruffin can score it in bunches, but did a great job getting his teammates involved which led to strong scoring nights from a handful of Cruisers on Wednesday. It’s rare that young guards have Ruffin’s feel, IQ and maturity, which leads us to believe this sophomore could be one of Central Ohio’s elite players by his senior year. Ruffin has the type of game to really elevate this Groveport program over the next couple seasons.
