#3 (D1) Newark 69, #4 (D1) Pickerington Central 59

Jake Quackenbush (28 points), Tybron Brooks (18 points) and Ty Gilbert (17 points) combined for 63 points and outscored Pickerington Central by themselves in a 69-59 win. The Wildcats led by as many as 23 points in the fourth quarter before a late rally from the Tigers trimmed the gap. The win for Newark was their fifth-straight over Pickerington Central in the series. With the win, Newark remains tied with Reynoldsburg at the top of the OCC-Buckeye. Those two teams will match up on Tuesday, Jan. 13th at Newark in what should be a battle for first place.

Friday’s Newark vs. Pickerington Central matchup was one between two state champion winning coaches in PC’s Eric Krueger (left, 2022 state champs) and NHS’ Jeff Quackenbush (right, 2008 state champs)

#2 (D1) Reynoldsburg 65, #10 (D1) Groveport Madison 47

Reynoldsburg put on a big display of their athleticism in an 18-point win over Groveport Madison. The Burg has defeated Groveport in the last eight meetings, starting with a sectional win over the Cruisers in the 2022 district tournament after losing both regular season meetings by one point each. The Raiders are off to a strong start and have been rolling as of late. We’ll see if they can make it 2-0 against Lakota West in 2025, as Reynoldsburg gets a rematch against the team they stunned at the buzzer in the state semifinals on Sunday at Capital University at 8:30 p.m.
