DUBLIN, OH - On their sixth game in two weeks and a case of the flu that lingered amongst the locker room, it could be understandable the Dublin Coffman Shamrocks may feel a bit fatigued.
And for most of the first half against the strongly considered underdog in Eastmoor Academy on Monday night, the Rocks seemed as if they needed some rest as they trailed the Division IV Warriors at the under two minute mark of the second period.
But back-to-back threes, first from Thomas Cochran followed by Luke Muhlenkamp, gave Coffman a 24-19 halftime advantage that ultimately turned into a 63-34 blowout win at home, as the Rocks picked up their third straight lopsided victory in a seven day span.
Threes were the key for the Rocks, as 15 of their 22 made field goals came from beyond the arc. Junior Charlie Guth and senior Gabe Schmidt were the main culprits against the Warriors, as they hit six and five, respectively. But the duo was hardly alone, as Coffman showed off their depth as three additional players also had success from deep.
“These guys, they are in the gym at all hours of the day and night working on their game,” Dublin Coffman head coach Adam Banks, now in his third season leading the boys team, said after the game. “Their hard work is paying off, which helps us as coaches because they are very efficient with their shot. I’m thankful for the work they put in.”
Guth paced all scorers with his 19 points, as all of his field goals came from long range on top of his four assists and four steals. Cochran, a junior wing and Division I prospect, finished with 17 points that included two triples along with five rebounds. Schmidt, also a scholarship prospect, scored all of his 15 points from deep.
