Division I Top 25 - Week 2
After opening weekend, we have a new top 25 complete with a new No. 1
Opening weekend in Central Ohio basketball gave many of the top teams an opportunity to test themselves against high level competition. Nobody did more for their resume than Reynoldsburg, who knocked off back-to-back defending state champion Richmond Heights in a game that was worth more than the $20 price of admission.
Here is the latest top 25 in Division I.
1. Delaware Hayes (2-0)
Last Week: #2
Last Week Games: Wins vs. Buckeye Valley and Cooper (Kentucky)
This Week: Friday vs. Big Walnut
Bottom line: The Pacers thoroughly dominated Buckeye Valley on Friday, before traveling down to Mason High School where they closely took down Cooper out of Kentucky. The Pacers open up OCC play with Big Walnut on Friday where they are a heavy favorite.
2. Reynoldsburg (1-0)
Last Week: #5
Last Week Games: Win vs. Richmond Heights
This Week: Tuesday at Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary, Friday vs. #24 Groveport Madison
Bottom line: The Raiders will have more than a dozen very difficult games this season thanks to perhaps the state’s toughest non-conference schedule. They’ll be tested once again on Tuesday at Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary, who has a bitter taste in its mouth following a loss to Pickerington Central on Saturday.
3. Westerville North (1-0)
Last Week: #3
Last Week Games: Win vs. Linden-McKinley
This Week: Tuesday at #9 Gahanna Lincoln, Friday at Franklin Heights
Bottom line: Westerville North flexed its muscle on Friday when they demolished Linden-McKinley. The Warriors hit the road to play No. 9 Gahanna Lincoln for the first top 10 matchup between local teams in the early going of the season.
