As we are now only two weeks away from the Central District tournament draw, teams are nearing the end of the regular season. With only six or so games left on the schedule for most teams, here are the latest power rankings in Division I.
1. Olentangy Orange (16-0)
This Week: Friday vs. Upper Arlington, Saturday vs. #18 Pickerington Central
As the lone unbeaten, it’s a no brainer that Olentangy Orange has remained at No. 1. The Pioneers have passed every test this season and will get two more in back to back games this weekend. Saturday’s game against Pickerington Central will be a rematch of last year’s Division I regional final, so expect Orange to really get up for that game.
2. Delaware Hayes (15-1)
This Week: Friday vs. #12 Westerville South
Delaware Hayes seized control of the OCC-Capital with their win at home vs. Westerville North on Tuesday. The Pacers are looking for revenge vs. Westerville South, the only team responsible for a Delaware Hayes loss this season. This Hayes team, despite sitting at No. 2, has flown a little bit under the radar this season. Expect that to change by tournament time.
3. Westerville North (13-3)
This Week: Friday at Canal Winchester, Saturday at Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary
While Westerville North was swept by Delaware Hayes on Tuesday, they completed the sweep over rival Westerville South on Friday. Junior guard Tai Perkins scored 34 points once again vs. South, the same number of points he had in the first matchup. Saturday’s matchup at Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary gives Westerville North a unique chance of picking up a high quality out of area win this late in the season.
