DAYTON, OH — When Columbus Academy started the season 4-4, it initially appeared a return to the Division V state championship game would be a difficult hill to climb, given the departure of four starters from the previous season.

Yet after a loss to Bishop Ready on January 3, the Vikings pulled of 20 straight wins and once again found themselves in Dayton on Saturday in a title game rematch against state-powerhouse Lutheran East, whom defeated Academy 53-49 almost exactly a year ago.

And for the second straight year, it was Lutheran East that had the advantage as they beat the Vikings 50-36 at UD Arena, as the Falcons won their seventh overall state championship and fourth in a row. It is the first time in OHSAA history a team has won four consecutive state championships.

Columbus Academy senior Jason Singleton finished his fantastic career with a 17-point effort.
