COLUMBUS, Ohio - - The holiday season brings with it many different situations for different teams. Some teams used the holiday time to reset after a couple weeks of basketball, and some used it to continue to build a resume and get their teams much needed reps against schools they may never play. City League teams started the holiday season rough, with only South, Walnut Ridge and Briggs picking up wins between the start of the winter break and the start of 2026. But, once the calendar turned to a new year, the league bounced back with wins over non-conference teams and ones not from Columbus, including going 3-1 in the City vs. City Showcase this past weekend in Cincinnati.

With league play picking back up tonight, check out a quick recap of what happened over the holiday break in the Columbus City League.

City League North:

Despite leading the north division with a 4-0 record, the Centennial Stars lost their two games over the break, a loss in the 5C Classics against Walnut Ridge and a shocking loss at Bexley two days after Christmas. They look to get back on track this week as they host Mifflin before traveling International on Friday and Olentangy Orange on Saturday in another non-conference test for the Stars.

Northland split their games over the break, losing to Euclid before a two-point against Westland after a Diante James game-winner lifted them to a win. The Mifflin Punchers, who have the same 4-4 overall record as Northland, came back from their break where they did not play a game and lost to Gahanna on Monday night.

Northland senior PG Diante James has been one of the City League’s best for the past three seasons

Linden-McKinley was the most active north division team, suiting up four times over the break to play basketball. The Panthers were on a four-game skid (including the loss to Northland before the break) but snapped it in Cincinnati, beating Cincinnati Withrow in the City vs City Showcase. Emmanuel Towns is on a quiet tear, continuing his season and scoring 32 points in the contest against Withrow.
