Centennial 49 , Africentric 47
Kennedy Houston's heroics gives Centennial back-to-back City League titles
COLUMBUS, Ohio - - This trilogy lived up to its billing, after splitting the two previous City League title game clashes, the Centennial Lady Stars and Africentric Lady Nubians gave the fans an instant classic. In the end, the Lady Stars simply outlasted the Lady by a final of 49-47 to win their second straight City League championship.
A steal and tough transition layup from junior first team All-City north performer Kennedy Houston with 5.4 on the clock not only capped off a personal 5-0 run, but stood as the game-winning bucket.
Lady Nubian superstar senior and first team All-City League south guard Jeniya Bowers drove the length of the court and saw her potential game-tying floater barely rim out, putting a brutal ending to a spectacular City League career.
The second one felt sweeter than the first for Centennial head coach Ernest Bell, saying “I woke up this morning and all over social media people were saying that we couldn’t do it,” he began. “So I told my kids, I sent them a message early, ‘hey, show and prove today.’”
Ending the game with 30 points, Kennedy Houston was the star of the afternoon.

“We the best player in the city,” assistant coach Bobby Witcher spoke with all conviction. “She hasn’t even reach her ceiling, her potential is crazy, she could average 50 [points] a game, but she’s selfless, she comes to work everyday, she wants her teammates to get better and she’s coachable.
