COLUMBUS, Ohio - - The game started with a forced turnover for a score for the Hawks and effectively ended with a blocked shot and score for them as well. In the opening night for the Central Catholic League, Hartley’s defensive efforts carried them to a 62-51 win over Bishop Watterson.

Hartley raced out to a 22-8 lead after the opening quarter on the strength of turnovers from the Eagles and transition baskets from the Hawks. Bishop Watterson opened the game with three consecutive turnovers, Bishop Hartley capitalized as sophomore starting point guard Jahki Calloway scored six of his eight in the opening frame and junior guard Carson Svedek buried two triples to start the game.

Watterson was sent to the bench after the first quarter and had to find out a way to not turn the ball over.

They did a much better job of ball security in the second quarter, and senior guard Blaze Ohlin took advantage by scoring five of his 13 in the quarter. The Eagles trailed 27-11 midway through the frame and the Hawks looked ready to fly away, but Ohlin and senior big Dominic Theado fought back and went on a 8-3 run to end the half. Watterson trailed 30-19 heading into the break.
