A look at league races around Central Ohio
As we get closer to the Central District tournament draw, here's an update on league races around the area
Every game gets bigger and bigger as we get closer to the end of the season. With league races entering the home stretch across Central Ohio, here’s a look at league races in each division in the area.
Ohio Capital Conference
Buckeye Division
Division leader: Newark (6-0)
In the race: Reynoldsburg (5-1)
Newark holds a one game lead over Reynoldsburg. The Wildcats are 6-0 in league play and can make a major step toward an outright league title when they take on Reynoldsburg on Friday. Newark has already swept Pickerington Central and has a significant advantage over the other three teams in the division.
Capital Division
Division leader: Delaware Hayes (8-1)
In the race: Westerville North (7-2), Westerville South (7-2)
Delaware Hayes completed the sweep of Westerville North on Tuesday at home. The Pacers will need to avenge their only loss in the league when they take on Westerville South on Feb. 2. However, the ‘Cats will need to take on Westerville North on the road on Friday, which will increase Hayes’ chances even more of winning an outright league title no matter who wins. The Pacers will need to avenge a loss at Westerville South earlier in the year the next time they match up.
Cardinal Division
Division leader: Marysville (6-0)
In the race: Olentangy (5-1)
Marysville has been perfect in league play this year, taking care of business in last week’s win over second place Olentangy. The Monarchs will get a tested at home against back-to-back defending champion Dublin Jerome on Friday. Marysville should be in great position to win an outright title, but the season finale on Feb. 16 against Olentangy could be for all the marbles.
