5C Classic Sunday Top Performers
All the big time players from Sunday's 5C Classic
Jaylen Gunther (6’1 G / 2027 / Ursuline): He came to Columbus and showed why he is one of the better guards in Northeast Ohio, not only with his shotmaking abilities, but also the way he controlled the pace and play of the ball game with his skill, his voice and his poise. Gunther has tight handle with the ball and consistently created shots for himself and his teammates, routinely getting guys open jumpers, with his ability to drive down the middle or the baseline and kick it out for shots. The junior may not be the tallest prospect, but the floor leadership and basketball IQ he put on display make him and effective player at the next level. As far as his shotmaking went, Gunther showed that could knock in shots from the college three-point line with ease and was never afraid to put one up from that range. Named the MVP of the game, finishing with 30 points, Jaylen Gunther proved why he is touted guard in his area.
Noah Bell (6’4 F / 2027 / Ursuline): The perfect compliment to Gunther on the day, Bell came to play and added in 27 points of his own, including a huge showing in the second and third quarters where he scored 15 of those. This young man’s game was simple this past Sunday, play harder than everyone else and finish around the basket. To be his height, he goes after every loose ball and rebound like it owes his money, willing to dive and put his body on the line to go after the basketball. There is nothing flashy about his offensive game, he just got effective buckets that allowed his team steady themselves or keep their lead in the game. Bell was able to draw four fouls while finishing with a bucket as well, proving that he was the most physical player on the court Sunday afternoon. The Irish undersized forward may not be recognized as a high level prospect, he sure gives high level effort.
