5C Classic Saturday Top Performers
Record setters, a Division 1 commit and others shine on Saturday night
COLUMBUS, Ohio - - Saturday afternoon into the evening, Capital University played host to the 5th annual Capital City Coaches for a Cure Classic, where the crowd in attendance got to see some of the best teams in the area face off as well as a history making performance from one of the best dual sport athletes to ever come from the Columbus City League. What players stepped their game up on Saturday? Check out below for the top performers from a stacked day of hoops at Capital University.
Marquis Lucas (6’2 G / 2026 / Walnut Ridge): The star of the entire day was this young man, as he came one-point shy of a school record, but set a 5C record with 51 points against the Centennial Stars, winning game MVP for his team and knocking the Stars from the ranks of the unbeaten teams in the area. “Deuce,” as he is known as started the game with 15 first quarter points, putting the Scots on his back and clawing them back into the contest. A 25-point half had the audience buzzing inside, doing it with array of buckets. Lucas scored from behind the three-point line, hitting all three of his triples in the opening 16 minutes, and was a beast in the paint. Another 26 in the second half, including a 16-point third quarter had everyone grabbing their phones calling friends and family to talk about this game. His strength allowed him to not only absorb contact, but play through it while finishing at the basket. He went 10-of-13 at the free throw line as well, showing how locked in he was the entire game. This was truly one of the best performances that a person could see live, nothing short of a special day for a special competitor.

Jakhi Calloway (5’11 G / 2026 / Bishop Hartley): Still the best point guard in the area, Calloway’s game has grown in so many different areas. The Kent State commit understands when to be aggressive and score and when to dish the ball out to his teammates. He scored 16 of his 23 total points in the second and fourth periods, showing that he knows when to take over a ballgame and be a scorer. The future Golden Flash is still able to get to the rim basically at will while being an awesome finisher at the basket. His jump shot has developed into one of the more consistent ones from a guard in Central Ohio. A four-year varsity starter, this young man has just gotten better every season. An almost perfect night at the free throw line as well 7-for-8 at the stripe, he was a beast at drawing contact while driving the ball. Named the MVP for his team in a comfortable win over Cincinnati Summit Country Day, scoring 23 points to lead the way, Calloway showed why his Hawks team can still be a district championship contender this season.
